Part Time Positions

Teen Program Coordinator

Overview:
York Parks and Recreation is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to fill the position of Part-Time Teen Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and growing recreational programs that target students in grades 7-12.

Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development:
    • Conceptualize and develop a diverse range of recreational opportunities in sports, special events, trips and more.
    • Explore innovative ideas to engage this population to keep the programs aligned with the teen’s interests.
  2. Coordination:
    • Collaborate with local vendors, schools, and community members to enhance program offerings.
    • Oversee logistics, scheduling, and coordination of programs and events.
  3. Community Engagement:
    • Act as a liaison between York Parks and Recreation and the local community.
    • Work directly with teens to understand their needs and develop a program that meets those needs.
  4. Marketing:
    • Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase awareness and participation in teen programs.
    • Utilize various channels, including social media, to promote programs effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in managing and participating in recreational programs.
  • Creativity and a passion for sports and recreation administration.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of local and regional resources and opportunities.

Compensation:
This position offers a $1,000 monthly stipend for working approximately 10 hours per week, with potential for additional compensation based on the success and growth of our programs.

Work will be a combination of onsite programming and remote planning.

Seasonal Part Time Positions

Mount Agamenticus Park Ranger

Currently Filled

Park Attendants will perform a variety of park operational activities. Responsibilities include regulating access fee compliance, general custodial and park maintenance operations, and visitor orientation and guidance for the Mount Agamenticus Conservation Program.  Park Attendants are the first point of contact, conducting routine checks, interacting with visitors, and promoting safe, responsible access to the area.

Parks Maintenance

Our maintenance staff is responsible for maintaining a broad range of properties located within picturesque York, ME. Daily assignments working in public parks, beaches and athletic fields in conjunction with a team atmosphere make for a great summer job opportunity. If you display a strong work ethic, good public relation skills and share our community philosophy, our maintenance department might be the right place for you this summer.

Cemetery Maintenance

Our cemetery maintenance crew is responsible for the upkeep of 300+ ancient burial grounds and veteran’s graves here in York. Our crew works seasonally to track down, map, restore and protect these historical landmarks. Daily assignments include GIS mapping, research, landscaping and gravestone repairs. Custodial Supervisor

Our Custodial Supervisor will work with a team of custodians to manage 4 seasonal restroom facilities at or near York’s beaches. Working and cleaning in this busy atmosphere can be both challenging and rewarding. In addition to maintaining clean and inviting facilities, our custodians display a positive attitude, attention to detail and a willingness to help and communicate exceptionally well with the public.

Approximate employment dates: June 1st thru October; Hours per week: 40

Pay: $25 per hour

Recreation Program Instructor/Coordinator

Our comprehensive community recreation and enrichment program provides a wide variety of opportunities for participants of all ages. We seek to employ many seasonal staff members for program coordination and instruction. Recreation and enrichment positions may include, but are not limited to: track & field coaches, youth soccer instructors, basketball coaches and officials, volleyball and pickleball coordinators and enrichment instructors.

York Beach Lifeguard

A squad of 13 USLA certified York Beach Ocean Rescue lifeguards protect York’s beaches every season. YBOR is one of only 7 USLA certified staffs in all of New England, and trains individuals to be highly effective ocean rescue-lifeguards, as well as good citizens. YBOR is an integral part of the York Parks and Recreation Department and often assists in other recreation programs as well . Apply now, interviews will begin in early spring and application materials should be submitted as early as possible. Qualifications include the ability to swim and run and a true desire to set and meet challenging goals. All YBOR lifeguards will be medically and physically certified within the YBOR program by certified USLA instructors at no cost to the candidate.

Conservation Steward

Currently Filled

Conservation Stewards will assist with natural resource management, visitor/recreation management, trail maintenance and park operations. Stewards will primarily be located at Mount Agamenticus but will also report to the Cliff Walk and other park locations as needed. Work will entail a variety of trail, trailhead and facilities maintenance projects along with public outreach tasks to include improving/maintaining paths and walkways, landscaping, cleaning, restoring native habitat, promoting safe and responsible use, and leading volunteers.

Mount Agamenticus Outreach Internship (Volunteer)

This Internship Program is a work/learning experience for students interested in environmental education, natural resource protection, stewardship, and parks & recreation management.  Mount A provides interns with exceptional outreach and educational opportunities focusing on current conservation issues.  Interns will help staff the summit Learning Lodge, develop and present displays, activities, and educational programs that teach the public about wildlife, habitats, and the natural resources found here.

Nubble Light Gift Shop Clerk

Currently Filled

The Nubble Lighthouse Gift Shop is open seasonally and raises funds for the restoration efforts at Nubble Light. Clerks help run the Gift Shop each season (with the support of a strong volunteer crew) stocking shelves, tagging merchandise, folding apparel, greeting guests and ringing in sales at the register. Store hours are 9:00am – 7:00pm, seven days per week from the first of May thru mid October.
